Privacy Policy
Athar was built on a simple idea: your money is nobody's business but yours. So the app was designed to run entirely on your device, and this page explains exactly what that means.
What we don't collect in the app
- No accounts: we never ask for an email, a phone number, or a password.
- No storage servers: your transactions are never uploaded to any server of ours.
- No tracking of you: we do not know who you are, and we build no profile of you. We know how many people used each feature: a plain count, with no name, no amount, and nothing of yours in it.
- No ads: so there is nobody we could sell your data to in the first place.
About this marketing website
Everything above concerns the app and your financial data. On this marketing website you're reading now, we do use visitor analytics (Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity) to learn which pages help people and where they get stuck, so we can improve them.
- These tools collect anonymised browsing data: pages visited, referral source, device type, and cursor movement within the page.
- We've disabled ad linking and ad personalisation, and IP addresses are anonymised.
- They have nothing to do with the app: they cannot reach your transactions or figures, because those never leave your device.
- You can opt out with a "Do Not Track" setting or any tracker blocker, and the site will work exactly the same.
What stays on your device
Everything you record in Athar is stored locally on your device: transactions, wallets, budgets, goals, debts, financial contacts, your settings, and your assistant conversations. Deleting the app deletes this data from the device.
Your copy and its sync, on your own cloud
When you turn it on, a copy of your data is saved to your own cloud (iCloud or Google Drive) and refreshes whenever you change something, so you find the same numbers on every device of yours.
The copy is locked on your device before it leaves it, with a key you choose and we keep no copy of. Even the company holding the file cannot open it; it holds a sealed envelope, nothing more. And in Google Drive we see only the file Athar created; we reach nothing else of yours.
It never passes through us on the way: it travels from your device to your cloud directly. Protection of the cloud account itself is governed by its provider's policy.
Turn it off whenever you want, and delete the copy from your cloud whenever you want.
The assistant: 3 layers, 3 degrees of privacy
- Computed answers: calculated on your device; nothing leaves it.
- On-device Apple intelligence: runs on a model on the device itself, with no internet.
- Athar Cloud (subscribers): when you choose a question that needs deeper analysis, the text of your question along with only the figures needed to answer it, without your name or any account identifier, is sent to a proxy and then to the model provider. We don't store your questions or use them for training, and there is a daily usage limit.
The rule: not a single number leaves your device unless you ask the cloud assistant yourself, and only as much as the answer requires.
Bank messages and receipts
When you use bank-message capture, receipt photos, or statement import, the processing and extraction happen on your device. What is extracted stays "pending your approval": you decide whether to record it or discard it.
Subscription and payment
The Athar Plus subscription runs through the App Store, and payment is handled entirely by Apple; we never access or see your card details.
Permissions the app may request
- Notifications: for the reminders and due dates you set yourself.
- Microphone: for voice entry; speech-to-text happens on the device.
- Camera and photos: to capture and read receipts locally.
Every permission is optional, and declining one doesn't stop you from using the rest of the app.
Your rights
- Export: full export of your data is always available, for free.
- Deletion: your data is yours; delete what you like inside the app, or delete the app and its data goes with it.
- Backing out of backup: turn it off whenever you want and delete the copies from your cloud.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, we'll show the change clearly inside the app before it takes effect. What will never change is the Athar Covenant: no ads, and no data selling.
